Want to put your graphic design, animation and/or computer programming skills to good use this summer? TechChange is looking for talented and passionate undergraduate or graduate students who posses exceptional tech and graphic design skills and a commitment to social change to participate in its first-ever Summer of Code fellowship program.
What is TechChange Summer of Code?
TechChange Summer of Code is a three month fellowship in Washington DC. Fellows can expect to:
- Work directly with talented programmers and graphic designers on the TechChange team to produce tangible and innovative web-based products that transform online learning
- Develop new skills in tech tools like Ushahidi, FrontlineSMS, Twitter, by participating in TechChange simulations and trainings
- Gain access to all TechChange online courses offered in 2012-2013 for free
- Network with with international and national aid agencies, NGOs, and corporate partners in the field
- Attend a number of events in Washington DC related to tech and social change
- Summer of Code Fellows will be honored at our TechChange summer event in Washington DC and featured prominently in all TechChange materials and online outreach
What about Housing and Transportation?
TechChange will provide housing, local transportation and a small monthly stipend for selected fellows. Applicants are encouraged to seek matching funding from home institutions and other grant programs.
What Types of Fellowships are Available?
Applicants must specify which fellowship category they are applying for.
Graphic Design
- Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, or other creative authoring programs
- Knowledge of HTML and CSS is a plus
Video Game Design & Animation
- Proficiency in AfterEffects, 3ds Max, Blender, or other animation software
- Experience in video game authoring and design
- Familiarity with HTML5 canvas element, Javascript animation libraries (like Raphaƫl or Impact) a plus
Computer Programming
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript, and MySQL
- Familiarity with WordPress
- Proficiency in Ajax is a plus
International Relations/Education
- Strong knowledge of international relations, development and/or peacebuilding work at the local or international level
- Strong knowledge of emerging technologies and new media
- Teaching or curriculum design experience
