Sample training: Technology for Crisis Response and Effective Governance in Kisumu, Kenya (July 2011).
With Kenya’s elections rapidly approaching in 2012, the need for local election monitoring and management capacity is growing. Over the course of four months TechChange worked with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation’s Partnership for Peace project in Kisumu, Kenya to design an in-person training program that introduced local leaders from the Nyanza, Western and Rift Valley Provinces to FrontlineSMS and Ushahidi mapping software. TechChange team members Charles Martin-Shields and Jordan Hosmer-Henner traveled to Kisumu and successfully implemented a complex election monitoring simulation which allowed participants to develop proficiency using FrontlineSMS and Ushahidi for monitoring elections as well as supporting general governance tasks such as public health and agricultural development.
